Absolutely! Just because you’ve done something in the past doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it, and it doesn’t have to define you either. People change their behavior every day and you are completely capable of making a decision to move forward and make healthy decisions for your life. Not only that, but people will respect you for having the strength to make a choice and stick with it.

No one else can make that decision for you. If you don’t feel ready, you’re not. Waiting is a good decision and your boyfriend needs to respect your wishes. If he isn’t, talk to your parents or a trusted adult and get help.
